Technique and Approach #4

Birds on the line. Peering out my lounge window one afternoon a small flock of magpies roosting on the power / phone (interweb) lines. Silhouetted by the afternoon sunset. The pink colour (of choice) from the film I had loaded up. Always looking for something a bit different to use up a roll or fill a gap.

I took a number of frames (not something I do all the time) of this event. this one featuring 4 friends. Hanging out. Perched, poised. Not in any real hurry, rush or puff.

Canon A1, Sigma 70-210mm FD, Kodak Ektar 100. Manual (as always) focus. Aperture priority (f/6.3ish) shutter speed around 1/60th judging by the diminishing sun (light). Hand held.

Places for Eating & Drinking (+ occasionally listening to live music)

Grill'd (Emporium Brisbane) always serves up amazing burgers and choice beer(s), Well all of the Grill'd s I've visited do. Now offering Gluten-free buns (for some of us with special dietary requirements). The food, the beer, the chips, the setting and with the occasional live set. It has become a favourite of mine to chill-out and pig-out (a little).

It's about the food and this photograph I took. As I continue my passion for (food) and everyday moments captured on film. Fuji Xtra 400, Canon A1, Sigma 28mm. I love the neon lights, the colour saturation, even the air-cond ducts.

This I hope to become a regular thing as I find unique (sorry Coffee Club) places to eat & drink (occasionally listening to live music). This is just the start of showcasing some of Brisbane Eats. With my Europe trip planned next year, I will continue documenting my adventures of new culture, find food and the people I meet along the way.

Technique and Approach #3

For the third instalment of my series I would like to look at the Golden Hour.

That period of time 1 hr after sunrise or 1hr before sunset. Although I don't always shoot at this time, it certainly produces some beautiful light. Often creating unexpected and surprising colours with film.

This makes me happy.

The following image was shot only a month or so ago during WWIM (World Wide Insta-Meet) here in Brisbane. Atop Kangaroo Point overlooking the city. In this instance, focusing on the fauna growing along the cliff edge. The obvious being the city skyline.

Focusing on the tree, with an almost identical one in the background giving it both a shadow  / silhouette look. Using Kodak Ultramax 400 Colour film, the colour was a little unexpected, but a wonderful surprise. 'Golden'. A slight vignette around the bottom where the sun slowly passes below the horizon. This has become of my favourite photographs. The golden colour, the silhouette. Simply nature.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
